happiness is…

 an “i love you mommy” from sam at the end of the day,snuggling with maren right before bed, reading “one more book” before turning out the light, that they like my singing and actually beg for another lullaby each night. 

opening your eyes to discover a child’s face pressed to yours as they exclaim “i’m awake,” sharing the pillow with whomever happens to wake up first, hearing the bedroom door creek open and then little feet tiptoeing over to wake you.

being the person that my children want to see first thing when they wake and the last before they go to sleep.
