the days i feel great – like i can accomplish anything - are the days that usually end up with me in the kitchen cooking, cleaning up and taking care of my family. i know it sounds so 1950s but it’s true. i feel, and like to feel, like a housewife. what does that say about me as a woman? i don’t know, but for me it feels natural, normal and empowering. yes, i work, yes, i have two children, a husband, and responsibilities outside the home. i get an immense amount of satisfaction caring for my husband and children.
i love making them fresh, delicous and nutritious meals, baking bread, keeping a tidy home. after a day of errands, work, playdates, ect. i love coming home and whipping up dinner while the kids play around me. taking care of them is more rewarding than any job i’ve ever had and harder too!
i am very lucky to be able to cater to both sides of my personality. i enjoy going to the office, interacting with people over the age of 5 and then being able to be home with them more than the average working parents. working in a family business allows me the opportunity to take them to classes, go on field trips and be a room-mother. plus, i have wonderful people who help take care of my kids when rich and i are working.
i am thankful that i do not have to make a decision between staying home with my children and going to work. my schedule allows me to do both and i wouldn’t trade that for anything – even on the days when work is piling up, the kids are crying for my attention and i have do idea what we are going to have for dinner.
